In an effort to streamline meetings and ensure more community voices are heard, the Federal Way City Council has revised its public comment procedures. During a recent special meeting, the council unanimously approved a motion to limit individual public comments to 90 seconds and group comments (up to five people) to three minutes. This change aims to accommodate a higher number of speakers during sessions with significant public interest.
The decision was prompted by a meeting where approximately 50 individuals signed up to speak. To manage time effectively while allowing broad participation, the council debated and agreed upon the new time constraints. Councilmember Hamilton initiated the motion, leading to a unanimous vote in favor of the adjustment.
These revised time limits are now in effect for future council meetings. Community members are encouraged to prepare concise remarks to make the most of their allotted time. The council remains committed to fostering public engagement and values the input of Federal Way residents.
